We focus on education, health, shelter, and environmental stewardship, aligning our community investments with areas where we can make the greatest impact. From equipping young people with practical skills, to expanding access to quality healthcare, providing safe and dignified shelter, and championing conservation and climate action, our programs transform lives and build resilience within communities.
Through our dedicated foundations in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and businesses across Africa, we partner with communities, governments, and stakeholders to deliver meaningful, scalable solutions that address poverty, social disadvantage, and environmental challenges.
Inside our manufacturing operations, the Safal Group maintains responsible practices that minimize our environmental footprint while driving reforestation, land rehabilitation, recycling, and sustainable resource use.

Healthcare
Kenya:
Mabati Medical Centre
Since its inception in 2000, the Mabati Medical Centre in Mariakani has provided medical services to over 600,000 patients, ensuring quality, affordable healthcare for surrounding communities. Each year, the Centre serves over 40,000 patients, providing curative care, advanced diagnostics, laboratory and radiology services, maternal and child health clinics, youth-friendly clinics, and specialized care for non-communicable diseases and HIV. Through its medical camps and community outreaches, the Centre prioritizes preventative healthcare and early intervention, reducing barriers to healthcare while improving community well-being.
Uganda:
Safal Uganda Baati Medical Clinics
Over the last nine years, Safal Uganda Baati Foundation’s medical clinics in Kampala and Tororo have delivered essential healthcare services to 54,400 underserved community members, expanding access to quality, affordable care. The clinics provide curative and preventative services, including HIV testing and counseling, immunizations for children, maternal and child health care, and diagnostic screenings. Regular community health outreaches and medical camps ensure even the most remote communities receive the healthcare they need.
Tanzania:
ALAF Medical Centre
The ALAF Medical Centre continues to provide accessible, primary healthcare services to over 6,000 patients annually. As part of ALAF’s commitment to community well-being, the dispensary ensures families in the surrounding communities can access essential healthcare services with dignity and ease.
Education
The Safal Group believes that education is the cornerstone of opportunity, dignity, and sustainable development. Across Africa, we are committed to empowering youth with practical skills, knowledge, and opportunities that prepare them to shape their futures while uplifting their communities.
Kenya:
Mabati Technical Training Institute (MTTI)
Since 2005, Mabati Technical Training Institute in Mariakani has equipped over 16,000 young people with technical and vocational skills to enhance employability and economic independence.
MTTI offers accredited courses in various fields including, General Fitting, Plumbing, ICT, Welding, Electrical Wiring, Motor Vehicle Mechanics, Health Care Assistant Hairdressing, Dressmaking, and Computer Applications, ensuring trainees gain practical, market-driven skills. Certifications by bodies such as NITA, KNEC, and KASNEB position our graduates to meet industry standards and access new opportunities.
Through the Work-Study Program, trainees gain real-world experience while earning an income to support their education, reducing financial barriers and ensuring they can complete their training with dignity.
Our Career Services Office plays a critical role in connecting trainees to employment, industrial attachments, and internships. To date, over 75% of our graduates have been linked to meaningful job opportunities, reflecting our commitment to ensuring training translates into livelihoods and community resilience.
Uganda:
Building Skills for Economic Empowerment
Over 2,000 youth have benefited from structured non-formal education and skilling programs, gaining vocational skills that enhance their livelihoods and self-reliance. The Village Savings and Loan Associations complement these efforts by promoting financial literacy and entrepreneurship among youth and community members.
A key milestone is the construction of the Safal Uganda Baati Technical Training Institute in Tororo, a facility that will soon nurture hands-on skills, innovation, and self-reliance among young Ugandans.
The Safal Uganda Baati Foundation is focused on fostering economic empowerment, entrepreneurship, and resilience, ensuring young people are equipped to thrive in the face of evolving socio-economic challenges.
Tanzania:
Nurturing Language, Heritage, and Skills
Safal Kiswahili Prize for African Literature
For a decade, the Safal Kiswahili Prize for African Literature has championed language, culture, and creativity across Africa, nurturing the next generation of Kiswahili writers while preserving Africa’s rich storytelling heritage.
Founded in 2014, the Prize recognizes and rewards outstanding, unpublished manuscripts in Kiswahili across Fiction (Riwaya), Poetry (Ushairi), and Memoir/Short Stories (Hadithi Fupi), with annual awards totaling USD 15,000.
Since its inception the Safal Kiswahili Prize for African Literature has: Attracted over 200 submissions annually from across Africa and the diaspora, facilitated the publication and distribution of over 4,000 winning books to schools and libraries, increasing access to Kiswahili literature, and supported the translation of winning poetry into English to reach wider audiences.
Through the Safal ALAF Scholarship Programme, the foundation support postgraduate students pursuing Master’s degrees in Kiswahili, strengthening Tanzania’s leadership in language excellence. To date, 19 students have benefited from this initiative.
The Safal Alaf Foundation is preparing to launch the Safal ALAF Technical Training Institute in Arusha, a facility that will equip Tanzanian youth with technical, trade, and entrepreneurial skills, opening pathways to employment, innovation, and self-reliance.
Environment
Kenya
Safal Eye in the Wild is a platform that invests in photographers and visual storytellers across Africa, empowering them to capture and share the urgent realities of climate change and the beauty of our natural world. Through their lenses, we inspire action, ignite conversations, and drive community-led conservation efforts.
Since its inception in 2017, Safal Eye in the Wild has attracted thousands of submissions, nurturing a vibrant community of creatives committed to environmental advocacy. The competition does not end with awards; winning photographers partner with us to implement conservation projects within their communities, including tree planting, water conservation, and environment based initiatives.
By combining art and action, Safal Eye in the Wild helps communities see the environment through a new lens, one that highlights the critical need to protect our ecosystems while empowering individuals to take meaningful steps toward sustainability.
In schools and communities, we implement Beautification and Greening Projects, installing kitchen gardens and planting trees to restore green spaces while educating learners on the importance of caring for the environment.
At Mabati Technical Training Institute, we practice permaculture and regenerative agriculture, demonstrating sustainable food production while restoring soil health and biodiversity, empowering students with practical climate-smart agriculture skills.
Uganda
Safal Uganda Baati Foundation is advancing reforestation and climate action by monitoring 20 hectares in Namatale and Mubuku Forests and cultivating over 5,800 tree seedlings for distribution to schools and communities.
Safal Uganda Baati Foundation equips youth with backyard gardening skills, providing nutritious food and income opportunities, and promote cleaner energy by training households in briquette making and waste management.
These initiatives strengthen environmental conservation while improving community livelihoods across Uganda.
Tanzania
In Tanzania, Safal ALAF Foundation continues to support tree planting initiatives in schools and communities, enhancing green spaces, fostering environmental stewardship, and contributing to climate resilience for future generations.
Shelter
Shelter is at the heart of Safal Group’s community investments. As Africa’s leading innovator in steel, building solutions, and allied products, Safal Group is committed to ensuring that families, students, and communities have secure spaces to live, learn, and thrive.
Across the communities we serve, Safal Group partners with governments, schools, hospitals, and local communities to advance shelter and infrastructure development. Through these partnership, we build and renovate classrooms and healthcare facilities, creating safe spaces that support learning and healing. Safal group also supports communities affected by floods, fires, and other natural disasters, helping them regain hope and dignity.
The Safal Group also invests in skills for roof technicians, equipping local youth and artisans with practical roofing skills that enhance employment opportunities while ensuring quality construction and advancing innovation in the building sector.
Through these initiatives, Safal Group continues to build safe spaces that uplift lives, strengthen communities, and foster resilience across Africa.
